Decoding a global market before launch

Context
While at the agency, I worked on a strategic research project supporting the launch of a new global online auction platform. The goal: help the leadership team make confident product and go-to-market decisions through a deep understanding of how the auction ecosystem really works — from user behavior to monetization models and competitive whitespace.
The research became the foundation for a data-backed, insight-driven market entry strategy in a category defined by high stakes, low loyalty, and intense competition.

Strategy
We didn’t just benchmark competitors — we mapped the entire market logic. This meant zooming out from individual platforms to understand how people buy, sell, and build trust in high-value digital transactions.
My focus areas included:
-
Identifying saturated vs. whitespace segments across global auction categories
-
Comparing buyer/seller behavior between broad and niche platforms
-
Mapping the emotional and rational triggers that drive trust
-
Revealing blind spots in leading product and monetization strategies
The key insight reframed the brief from “launch a new auction platform” to “design a smarter, data-driven entry into a fragmented and opportunity-rich market.”

Delivery
The outcome was a full strategic intelligence system — turning fragmented market signals into clear, actionable direction for product, marketing, and leadership teams.
Key deliverables:
-
Global strategic landscape of 20+ auction platforms (broad & niche)
-
Segmentation by audience behavior, loyalty patterns, and whitespace opportunities
-
Comparative model analysis (revenue streams, pricing logic, risk zones)
-
Feature-value matrix separating must-haves from differentiators
-
Emotional & rational user drivers mapped across the journey
-
Visual synthesis of platform archetypes and differentiation levers
-
Strategic narratives to guide positioning and go-to-market focus
-
Alignment frameworks for product, marketing, and executive teams
The result: a unified view of where to play, how to win, and what to build first — enabling the team to enter the market with clarity, focus, and confidence.
